Advanced modeling approaches for CFD simulations of coal combustion and gasification

Coal is the most abundant fossil fuel and widely used as an energy source for combustion gasification. Both experimental methods computational tools are required development of new advanced, innovative clean coal technologies systems. In particular, 3D fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations can provide detailed local global information on interaction dynamics, mixing, heterogeneous homogeneous chemical reactions even complex systems such combustors, gasifiers, or reactors. The predictive capabilities CFD depend directly appropriate models their mutual interactions. current state modeling reviewed in this paper need further improvements both individual respective coupling addressed. addition, to evaluate validate interactions, with increasing complexity well-defined boundary operating conditions that suitable data. A number reference burners developed especially at universities research institutions, also presented recent simulation data these reviewed.
